Hello from Santa Monica!
This quarter's newsletter is a bit behind schedule. I wish I could say that it's because I've been wrapped up in a new photography project, but
the reality is that, although I've been keeping myself extremely busy with a ton of stuff, very little of it has turned into anything that's going to find it's way into a developed frame any
time soon. Hopefully the coming months will prove kinder to the artistic flow.
Not to be completely without news, my showing at Backscatter, the Create:Fixate 2007 all-photography show, was a huge success. The event, held late last July for one night in Hollywood,
California, drew upwards of 2000 people and had some fantastic work from more than 25 photographers and artists. I also had two images, Lakescape and 3am Flight, shown as part of the
Snap To Grid exhibition September 13 through October 4 at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art.

I'm in the final stages of wrapping up the "secret" project I've been plugging away on for the past year and hope to have it wrapped by late
November if at all possible. I'm also going to be making a trip to Maui in mid-November that's likely to net some nice imagery. In the meantime, there's a pile of other randomness in process
including further work on my soft-focus architecture project.

Backside of Hollywood
- Hollywood, CA, 2004 -
This image was captured after a long hike up the Southern side of Mount Lee back in 2004. The Hollywood sign is officially off limits to the
public, but there's a small public fire road that runs along the back side up to the communications installation that you see to the right in many other pictures. From that road you can get just a
glimpse of the first few letters in the sign from an angle not often seen by the masses. When I made that hike back in 2004, the air was fairly thick with smoke from several wildfires that had been burning for the
previous week, so downtown Los Angeles is just barely visible off in the distance on the upper right side of frame. Considering the recent fires in and around Los Angeles, I found this
image particularly fitting. This print is currently on display in my online "Geometry" gallery.
Best Regards,
Walt Jones
