Liquid Image Photography Newsletter - December 2007

Hello from Santa Monica!

How amazing it is that time passes so quickly. Seems like just a few weeks ago I sent out my last quarterly newsletter. Needless to say I've been insanely busy with all kinds of stuff. The end of 2006 saw the close out of a very challenging and productive year for me. Much as this past year has been exciting for me, I'm pretty stoked about the things in store for 2007. I've been working on setting up some gallery shows and have a few new projects that I expect to seriously push some of my own creative boundaries.

Current Projects
I'm not at liberty to give out too many details on the three projects that are swirling around in my head and in various stages of physical existence. I'm close to half way through what I've come to term as the "secret project" that will hopefully be ready for full presentation in a few months. I'm also about to start shooting two abstract projects: one centering on light, shadow and shredded paper and the other on "defocussed" architecture.

Lines and Curves
- Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2004 -

This image was captured by a very jetlagged me during a brief layover in Schiphol airport in the Netherlands. While killing time at my gate while en route to Paris, France, I found myself continually entranced by the different geometries created by the cris-crossing of arms on the rows of seats scattered about. Perhaps this was due to my extreme exhaustion, but I soon found myself shooting up at least a full roll's-worth studying the "lines and curves" created by the long, empty rows of seats. I've always really liked how this particular image captures such a nice balance of form in the ways the lines and curves meet and expand from one another. I also enjoy the fact that few people have any idea that it's simply a row of airport seats. This print is currently on display in my online "Geometry" gallery.

Best Regards,

Walt Jones
