Perched 900 feet above the infamous 405, the J. Paul Getty Center's galleries, gardens and offices hug the ridgeline, shimmering and glowing, morning and evening, for viewers from East LA to Santa Monica. Up close, you see architect Richard Meier's 1.2 million square feet of craggy Italian travertine interrupted by polished aluminum and vast panels of glass. But the defocused lens ignores the contrasting textures and museum's amazing collections, leaving only Meier's fundamental shapes, forms and pattern - a grand view from a near perspective.
To properly capture the timeless quality of these images, all prints in this series are made using a digital silver gelatin process. Ilford fibre baryta silver paper is exposed using the laser of a Durst Lambda imager and is then run through traditional darkroom chemistry to develop the final image. The result is an archival silver gelatin print with gorgeous neutral tones and a beautiful surface texture that reconnects with the bygone era of true black and white, chemical photography.
Original photographs are available for individual purchase and can also be displayed together as an exhibition. The images are available in two sizes:
